August is the brainchild of Hans Christian, a skilful chef and Budi Cahyadi, a seasoned hotelier and F&B professional. Debuted in November 2021; the duo chose to name their restaurant August to reflect their goals of it being respected and impressive, as the word august means. Hans and Budi have created a brand-new dining space that is elegant but not intimidating to guest.

August is the winner of American Express One To Watch Award and currently ranked #95 on the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2023 sponsored by S. Pallegrino & Acqua Panna.

Background

Born in Bandung in West Java, Hans grew up in Jakarta and is a true chef at heart, his passion taking him to study the culinary arts first in Taylor’s University Malaysia, then to Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island. While in the US, Hans honed his skills at various restaurants including Yono’s Fine Dining Restaurant in Albany, New York and one Michelin-starred Next of the famed Alinea Group in Chicago.

After returning to Indonesia, Hans joined Fairmont Hotel Jakarta as Chef de Cuisine to lead the team at VIEW Restaurant, a 30-seater fine dining restaurant serving modern European cuisine with an Asian twist. During his three-year stint at VIEW, Hans steered the team to win multiple restaurant awards, establishing himself as one of the city’s up and coming chefs.

Background

Budi was born and grew up in Lombok, graduated from Glion Institute of Higher Education in Switzerland.

Budi then began a 12-year career with Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, including ten years at Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London, and two years at Mandarin Oriental, Jakarta, with his last post being Director of Food and Beverage.

After leaving Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, he joined a privately owned food and beverage operator in Jakarta as Director of Operations, overseeing two upscale restaurants and one coffee shop in the capital.

The main dining area is situated in the heart of the restaurant, where you can enjoy the excitement of the dining experience with a bare view of our bustling open kitchen.

Chef’s Counter

Best suited for solo diners or pairs of two; the Chef’s Counter is undoubtedly one of the best seats in the house. It is situated right in front of our pastry kitchen with a side-by-side seating arrangement.

Lounge

Our lounge comprises two-seater tables with face-to-face arrangement, located across the smoking-friendly bar. This area is best suited for couples.

Chef's Table

An excellent seating location, secluded from the bustling main area that offers a first-hand view of our team in the open kitchen. The Chef’s Table can accommodate up to 8 guest.

Restaurant Policy

Please reach us directly at rsvp@augustjakarta.com to make a reservation for parties of 7 or more, including Chef’s Table and Private Dining Room.

Our dress code is relaxed-casual. Feel free to wear any outfit you are comfortable with; however, flip-flops and slippers are discouraged.

Children above the age of 6 are welcomed, as long as they participate in dining from our menu. However, we are unable to accept babies and toddlers, as it is not a suitable environment. Keep in mind that we do not provide child-friendly facilities (e. g. high chair), and we do not offer a menu specifically catered towards children. We will also need your cooperation to create a pleasant dining experience for other guest.

The consumption of outside food, including birthday cake, is prohibited within our premises. However, you are welcome to bring your cake solely for documentation purposes.

Yes, and there will be a corkage fee applied.

We only accept cashless payments.

Dining Experience

We strive to create a memorable dining experience for everyone. Each of our menu options has its own flow, therefore full-table participation on the same menu is required.

Arriving more than 10 minutes late might result in missing the option to experience the Chef’s Journey or Tasting Menu, as there will not be enough time. However, you will still be able to enjoy dishes from the à la carte menu in the remaining time of your reservation.

Our dishes may contain beef, pork, poultry, seafood, nuts, gluten, and dairy products in one or more forms, both raw and cooked.
If you have allergies or dietary restrictions related to any of these ingredients, please inform us by at least 72 hours prior to the reservation date or during the reservation process, as we will not be able to accommodate any last-minute requests.
Please note that accommodations are not guaranteed, and we are unable to accommodate a dairy-free diet.

FAQ

Reschedule and Cancellation Fee

For a party up to 6 persons, should you need to reschedule your reservation, kindly inform us by at least 24 hours before the allotted time
If you decide not to come, request for a reschedule within the final 24 hours before your reservation time, or reduce the number of guests from the initial reservation, we will charge a cancellation fee of IDR 500.000,- per person.

For groups of 7 persons or more, including reservations for the Chef’s Table and Private Dining Room, please inform us regarding the cancellation or rescheduling latest by 48 hours before your reservation to avoid a cancellation fee of 50% the advance payment.

In case of cancellation due to medical reasons, we will not charge a cancellation fee if a medical certificate is provided.
Please note that the booking fee/advance payment is NOT refundable.
